Sputnik Anniversary

Its the Space Age plus 50 years! Fifty years ago the Russians fired their Sputnik satellite into space and ushered in the begining of the Space Age. Honestly, when I was a little kid and astronauts were landing on the moon, I though we'd be a lot farther ahead than we are. Still, we are looking to the moon again, so things are looking up.

The BBC has an interesting article on the peaceful influence of Sputnik.
