FISA Passes

Yesterday the US Senate approved the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act revisions, expanding the American government's powers to spy on its own people. Moreover, it gives retroactive immunity to the phone companies that agreed to illegally aid Washington's activities in the past. And Obama voted yes. I've never thought he was the liberal dream candidate that some supporters believed, but its a major set back for his agenda of change, there's no two ways about that. Its no good for the US to get out of Iraq, only to continue the War on Terror against its own people.

He's still a better choice than McCain, who wants to continue the war at home and abroad, but if Obama is going to be the candidate for change and renewal, he's got to act, and vote, differently than the supporters of the status quo.
